Thought I'd start a thread to keep a collection of Mafia Game theme ideas for future use.

What do y'all think would be good?  Try to flesh out the roles, if you can, but if not, it's cool.  Try to remember that you'd need to allow both factions to be playable, and allowing for many of the typical roles we've seen and think of some creative twists that might make it neat... i.e. Greg making the role "Town Drunk" who had an 'investigate' role... because the drunk is always wondering the town in a stupor, at night in all the western movies, he invariably always sees something... sometimes blurry.

I'll try to add ideas later... just wanted to see if y'all had some ideas worth jogging.

One problem with this thread is if someone fleshes out roles in a game, when that game happens, people know the roles.  As in the case of the town drunk, you don't necessarily want everything out in the open from the start.  I'm planning on starting one after the first, right now it will most likely be a vampireish one but I haven't decided for sure.  Am planning to work on it over the holidays.  I'm hoping for a lot of players so I can get some more roles involved.  I've got a twist or two in mind already.

good point.

Ok maybe come up with a theme, the factions, and not flesh out the roles? Tongue

Themes, and then what the roles are, even if we don't know what each role does. We should at least know what roles there are so we can surmise who is what. Even if we have roles that wind up not being filled, I think we should know what you have in mind.

I also think it would be a good idea to have some sort of hint or clue each day, even if it's very vague. The first day is absolutely a guess without it, and it would give us something more to talk argue about.

Along those lines, once I get settled in, I'd like to try one that has sort of a "clue" theme to it, maybe there is only one bad guy, and everyone has to figure out who it is with clues, but the bad guy gets to fuck with the evidence, and one good guy is killed each night if the mystery is not solved, etc... I haven't had time to give it a hell of a lot of thought yet, but I'll continue to work on it and let you know what I come up with.

I have one in mind based on the lovecraftian idea that came up earlier (which I have stolen shamelessly).

I am going to plan for doing it after I get a few games under my belt, but I have some neat ideas that will make it interesting.

Like the cotton gin, it doesn't matter who invented it... just who gets to the patent office first.
