Hey,

So since this is the first time I'm running a game I'm going to keep the rest of you up to snuff on how I'm going on about setting up a game.

This will be a great learning experience for me and I hope you can pick up something as well.

I'm going to lock this topic, so if you have anything to say, please PM it to me.

So the first thing I had to do was get a theme.

That was easy as I had figured out the western theme when I was playing at CadVault.

Once the theme was figured out I went onto roles.  There were so many possible roles to choose from but naturally I started with the 2 obvious.  Townies and Mafia.  From there I expanded.

By this time I have posted a sign-up thread.  I picked a date that was out there a bit so everyone had a chance to settle down from the last game.  Jumping into a new game right away can really work on some people.  The carry over the role from the previous game.  This way people can get a new mindset and really put there new personalities in place.  I picked the date I did because of the holiday week next week.  Seemed perfect and just about the right amount of time for me to get a bunch of stuff in place for the new game.

The next step was to figure out how the describe the roles to the players when they get chosen.  This was a bit of a write up, but I have now completed this task.  It's not as easy as one might think as you have to make sure the people getting the roles understands everything they can and can not do.

With that step complete I'm now going to start figuring out my opening scene.  I have some good ideas already, now I just have to write them up.

So I hadn't had time to do anything for a bit, but I had been thinking of other things I'll need to tackle.

1.  When night moves are sent into there will be the inquiry for other people.  Now I could go with an easy reply saying the person was out and about or just sitting at home, but I've seen other posts where the story gets fairly descriptive.  So now I'll want to start putting together some brief stories for when people inquire about someone else.

2.  Game play during the day.  Bob had a little bit of game play during the day to try to keep people moving along.  I remember that as the games were played at the CADVault things got interesting during the day as you could interact more to get clues.  I even remember in the vampire game that Randall would have the bell ringing when vampires here on the board.  So this brings me to wonder if I want to do something similar.  If I do how am I going to work it up.

So I have a great idea for the opening scene and I'll be working it up soon.  I think you will all enjoy it.

So I had realized that I can't really post the opening scene without sending out roles first.  So when you are going to start a Mafia game keep this in mind.  You may need a couple of days for everyone to respond to roles and answer their questions.

I have found that staying gender neutral during the writing of the death scenes is quite hard.  Unless you purposely want to give clues away, keep a close eye on this.

When creating the death scenes during the game, be sure to write down key points you'll want to include.  These of course will come up as your read through the posts cause the members in the game give you great story lines.
